GREENPOWER

Castle Coombe Heat - 25th September 2016

As Year 7 students of Sir James Smith's it was great to get involved with the Greenpower Race team; knowing that the team are the Champions we have a lot to live up to. Both Jack and I have just returned from our first race at Castle Coombe. I had a chance to drive and Jack was in charge of the wheel bearings as one of the pit crew.

Isla Symons was our race team manager and Toby Alford the garage manager. They were in charge and made the big decisions for the day - there is a lot to do at a race.

Scrutineering was first; this is where the car is checked for race safety. We had a few things to do but all went well and we got our pass.

The first race was very tight with Toby Alford starting us off. William Hooper set the fastest lap at 4.38 minutes and I raced as driver three. Unfortunately we had an electrical issue where I had to stop, that lost us about a lap but I still took the chequered flag in Second place.

The second race went a bit better but there was a slightly faster car. With a few changes we are pretty sure we can beat them.

We did very well and won a second overall trophy and a trophy for best presented; both of us had our new race overalls.

We are looking forward to the International Final at Rockingham next.
