Following a successful Work Experience Week last academic year, in which all of Year 10 students participated in some form or other, we are now offering the scheme to our current Year 10s.
This year’s ‘Block Work Experience’ scheme will run from 17th to 21st July. A pack has been distributed to all parents/carers of students who will be involved, but Jo Ledger can be contacted at school at any time during the working day for further information or forms. An introductory assembly for the whole of Year 10 has taken place at which the scheme was outlined, with Year 11 experiences from the last academic year highlighted.
Once again there will be a competition amongst the Houses, with a prize to the House with all the relevant Year 10s signing up for work experience first. Individual spot prizes will also be distributed throughout the year.
Students are urged to ensure that they finalise their work experience placements as soon as possible so that all health and safety checks can be put in place. Outlets have to be approved by Cornwall Council representatives.
On a Deep Learning Day this academic year, all work experience students will be undertaking the Work Hazard Awareness Course set by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This will highlight health and safety issues for them, regarding the workplace.
We also have extended work experience students in Years 10 and 11 who are taking Workskills courses along with their placements. Placements currently being undertaken, and which have been undertaken in the past, include farming, working in local businesses, and assisting in a primary school.
