YEAR 6 TRANSITION
The transition from Primary to Secondary School is an exciting time for many pupils. Most pupils will feel confident and ready for the move to a new school, where others will feel more nervous and unsure. At Sir James Smith's we provide a comprehensive transition programme which caters to the social, emotional and academic needs of all pupils. The school's mission to have happy children able to go on and make interesting choices begins with the transition process.
Each September we hold our Open Evening where Year 6 pupils and their families are invited to join us for a prefect led tour of the school. You will have the opportunity to visit different subject areas and take part in a variety of fun and engaging activities whilst meeting our staff and students.
The transition process from your Primary School to Sir James Smith's begins once you have received your confirmation of a place in our school. Following this, you will receive a letter which will contain some information dates for your diaries.
During the Summer Term, our Head of Key Stage 3, Miss Hocking will visit each child in their Primary School. During this visit pupils will have the opportunity to ask questions alongside getting an idea of what a normal day looks like at our school. Following this, in July, we run a week of transition visits. During this week, pupils will follow a normal timetable of lessons in their Tutor Groups and meet with important adults throughout the week. We also hold a Parent Information Evening which will include a presentation from members of our school's Senior Leadership Team and provide an opportunity for parents/carers to meet with key staff members.
During the first term, we will hold a Year 7 Parent Information Evening where you will be able to revisit your child's tutor to hear about how they have settled in. This also gives you a chance to provide us with feedback on the transition process so that we can be sure we are providing prospective new families with all the information they want and need.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to Sir Jim's, should you have any questions or would like to know more, please contact Miss Hocking, Head of Key Stage 3 at the following email address: jhocking@nclt.academy.
